What Is a Good Rice Purity Score?

Learn what different Rice Purity scores mean, what the average score is, and how to interpret your results.

What Is the Rice Purity Test?

The Rice Purity Test is a self-graded survey consisting of 100 questions about life experiences. Originally created by Rice University students, it has become one of the most popular online personality quizzes, particularly among college students.

Your score ranges from 0 to 100. The higher your score, the fewer experiences you have checked โ€” meaning a higher score indicates greater "purity" or innocence.

What Do Different Scores Mean?

Score 98โ€“100: Completely Innocent You have checked very few or none of the items. This is typical of younger teens or people who have led very sheltered lives.

Score 90โ€“97: Very Innocent You have had minimal life experiences. You may have had a few romantic encounters but have avoided most of the more adventurous items on the list.

Score 77โ€“89: Relatively Pure You have had some experiences but remain fairly innocent overall. This is common among high school students and young adults.

Score 45โ€“76: Moderately Experienced You have explored a fair amount of life's experiences. This is the most common range for college students and young adults in their 20s.

Score 9โ€“44: Quite Experienced You have lived life to the fullest and have plenty of stories to tell. You have checked a significant number of items on the list.

Score 0โ€“8: Very Experienced You have checked nearly everything on the list. Very few experiences remain unexplored.

What Is the Average Rice Purity Score?

The average Rice Purity score varies significantly by age and background:

- High school students: typically score between 70 and 90 - College freshmen: typically score between 60 and 80 - College seniors: typically score between 40 and 70 - Adults over 25: often score below 50

These are general trends โ€” individual scores vary widely based on personal choices, cultural background, and life circumstances.

Is There a "Good" Score?

There is no objectively good or bad Rice Purity score. The test is designed for self-reflection and entertainment, not judgment. A high score does not make you a better person, and a low score does not make you worse.

The test simply reflects your personal experiences. What matters is that your choices align with your own values and that you feel good about the life you are living.
